Testing continues to be a crucial focal point for the Kern County Latino COVID-19 Task Force as cases start to rise throughout the county. While Kern County is currently in Tier 2 (Red), testing metrics could put the county back in Tier 1 (Purple) by next week. Five new testing sites are happening this week, three of them will be in Kern’s outlining communities to ensure increased access.

“We are seeing an alarming rise in local cases,” said Jay Tamsi, co-founder of the Kern County Latino COVID-19 Task Force.  “This virus is very real. We need to continue following the CDC guidelines in order to ensure our community’s health. It’s very important to slow the transmission rate by identifying positive cases, tracing and having people self-isolate properly.

Tamsi added that the county is still required to meet state guidelines to remain at this stage of being open or to be moved forward. Among the key weekly benchmarks are increased testing results.
