Government Relations Committee Update

The Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee has voted for the following:  

  1. SUPPORT of SB 742 which will bring more transportation money to Kern County and broaden the access to other regions via Amtrak.
  2. OPPOSE AB 1332 which will prohibit California state or local agencies from contracting with any businesses that contract with any “immigration-related” federal agencies.
  3. OPPOSE AB 1066 which will force employers to provide unemployment insurance to workers during labor disputes.
  4. OPPOSE State Constitutional Amendment (SCA) 5 which will reduce the approval threshold for school districts to impose parcel taxes from 2/3 votes to 55% majority.
  5. OPPOSE SB 756 which will put a moratorium on new charter schools until 2024.

This past weekend, our President/CEO Jay Tamsi and Central Region Director on the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Board attended a special kick-off event for the annual convention taking place August 21-23.

 

It’s an honor for KCHCC to be apart such an amazing group of business professionals throughout the State of California who advocate for economic development/growth, small businesses and so much more!

Session 2: KCHCC Energy and Ag Academy “The Inside Scoop” met at Chevron. Students got the ”inside scoop” from our community partners - Kristen Dodd, Pacific Gas & Electric; Ariana Joven, K.C. Farm Bureau; Lucinda Macias, Chevron, HR Training Advisor; and a Chevron Professional Panel “Different Jobs within Chevron.” What a great weekend the students had!

Last night was a great start to our KCHCC Summer Business Academy with dozens of entrepreneurs and small business owners investing their time into a great business opportunity!

A special thank you to this week's “Business Expert,” Mr. Art Ruiz, owner of La Mina Cantina. He spoke at our opening session on what it means to open doors to a successful business and customer service in the workplace. 5th Annual KCHCC Energy and Ag Academy

We are excited to have our 5th annual KCHCC Energy and Ag Academy kick-off this past weekend at Bakersfield College with a full class of over sixty excited and bright students. The academy consists of students from Bakersfield College, Taft College, CSU Bakersfield and CSU Fresno who are interested in the Energy and Agriculture sectors. The curriculum is focused on introducing our students to local professionals, careers, and other informative highlights from these industries. Our academy students also become student ambassadors ofKCHCC.
