Menudo and Pozole Cook-Off.

 

KCHCC is excited to announce our entertainment line-up for our 21st annual Latino Food Festival Menudo and Pozole Cook-Off. We'll have 3 stages, HEADLINER will be RAMON AYALA Y SUS BRAVOS DEL NORTE along with VELORIO La Marcha , Hindsite, Band LostVinyl  (a special tribute to Tower of Power), La Sonora Explosiva, Mariachi San Marcos, DJ's Danny Palacios  and Noe Garcia Ballet Folklorico Huaztecalli  and more!

Government Relations Committee Meeting with K.C. Supervisor Chairman of the Board David Couch, Fourth District Supervisor providing a “County Supervisor Update.” Additionally our Government Relations Committee voted to support the following:
 
  • Voted to send a letter of support for AB 1744 (Salas) Cranes: Emission Reduction Program
  • Voted to sign the coalition letter to oppose AB 51 (Gonzalez) Ban on Arbitration Agreements
  • Voted to sign the coalition letter to oppose SB 1 (Atkins) California Environmental, Public Health, and Workers Defense Act of 2019 
  • Voted to send a letter of Opposition for AB 290 (Wood) Health Care Service Plans and Health Insurance: Third Party Payments

Government Relations Updates

 

The following are a list of items our committee voted in favor of endorsing:

 
  • SB 559 (Hurtado): will provide $400 million for funding for the Friant-Kern Canal to provide water to Valley farmers: unanimous approval to submit a letter of Support.
 
  • SB 224 (Grove): will make certain AG thefts to be cited as grand theft, causing stricter punishments for AG theft crimes; the money from the fines will go towards rural crimes units: unanimous approval to sign onto a coalition letter in Support. 
 
  • SB 246 (Wieckowski): oil severance tax: unanimous approval to submit a letter of Opposition.
 
  • AB 40 (Ting): bill for CA to become “oil-free by 2030”: unanimous approval to submit a letter of Opposition.

Last week our President/CEO and CHCC Central Region Director Jay Tamsi along with KCHCC Board Members spent time in Sacramento meeting with elected officials to discuss new laws and business legislation which will impact the Central Valley.

 

The “highlight” of the visit was the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce - Hispanic Business Policy Summit. Such a great visit with our CHCC leaders Chairman:Frank Montes, President/CEO: Julian Canete, CHCC Board of Directors and all the amazing summit panelist!

This week, Kern County Supervisors approve Lightning in a Bottle music, arts and culture festival that is scheduled to take place at Buena Vista Lake May 8-13.
 
“We see the event as an opportunity for local businesses to help our economy. Event organizers have contracted many of our Hispanic chamber members whose services will translate into helping our economy thrive and putting workers to work. We can only expect other opportunities to rise, and the organizer has expressed interest in extending the event in Kern County in the future.” - Jay Tamsi, KCHCC President/CEO
